Check for new e‑mail

Parent Previous Next

You can schedule Windows Mail to automatically check for new e‑mail, or you can check for new e‑mail manually. Checking manually is useful if you don't want to wait for the next time Windows Mail is scheduled to check for new messages, or if you're using dial-up networking to connect to the Internet and you don't want Windows Mail to connect automatically.

To check for new e‑mail automatically

1.     Open Windows Mail.

2.     Click the Tools menu, and then click Options.

3.     Click the General tab, and then select the Check for new messages every X minute(s) check box.

4.     To change how often Windows Mail checks for new messages, enter a number between 1 and 480 in the Check for new messages every X minute(s) box.

To check for new e‑mail manually

1.     Open Windows Mail.

2.     Click the Tools menu, point to Send and Receive, and then click Send and Receive All. Windows Mail will send any e‑mail in your Outbox and will download any new e‑mail.
